Abstract
In this project it is the both of us trying to make a working game. At the beginning we were choosing what project to do and we decided to make a game. We knew that this would be difficult because we would need to learn how to code and then take time to make the game. But there were more things we needed to face that we did not know we would face. We tried to learn how to code and we tried to make a 2D platformer game over in 3 months. We had many struggles, we had to learn how to code and that was a bit complicated. We had so much work in other classes that there were many days that we could not work. The days we did we both learned coding and we learned how to use Unity. Later we started to make the game. We got the level and the character, but after a while, the computer that most of the work was saved on had to wipe all of the files and it had to reset completely. This was bad because we needed to start over. So, we started over and we did our best to work every day that we could. We worked on the level and coding to get the game to work. We tried our best to work on the character again, but we could not finish the character. We did not finish our everything that we wanted in our game, so the results of our project and our hypothesis turned out as negative.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyT2FuZEklMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZhJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Object and Inquiry
In this lab report we are going to see if two 8th grades can come up and make a working videogame in the 2-and-a-half-month time frame giving. How could we make one and self-teach ourselves how to code and build a videogame? And how do videogames work and what makes them good?[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyVG9ySCUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRmElM0U=[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][vc_column_text]
Hypothesis
We can create a working video game by May 1st.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyUldVJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGYSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Research Write Up
Prior Knowledge by Brayden: What I know about coding and making games is very little, I now basic java or c+ script, but not a lot. It has been a while since I have done any coding with java, so I will be not as good as I was.
Prior Knowledge by Marcos: I don’t know much about the project, I am doing this to learn more about it. But I do know that making a video game involves coding, I have done a bit of coding when we do the Hour of Code.
With the sources we had, we learned how to code and how to make a game using Unity. We could learn how to move things around and things in the game should look. At the beginning we did not know how to code, but watching the videos and with practice using Unity, we could learn more. This was good for our project because we could get done. Since we were little, we did the Hour of Code, but that was not enough. This was bigger and more challenging than the Hour of Code. We learned that it is very hard to make a game, and that you really need to love coding in order to make a living out of it. We learned that coding is not for us. But we did get a lot of help with the sources. During our class times we would go on Unity to practice using it more. It would help us develop knowledge for navigating around Unity. We had so little knowledge of coding, but with the project we learned more.
Refined Questions:
What is JavaScript?
Why do we need it?
Does JavaScript change anything?
How is it different than other ways of coding?
How do we use it?
How do we use Unity?
How long would it take to learn how to use Unity?[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyVGFuZE0lMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZhJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Procedure
At the beginning of February, we were debating about what our project should be. Either making a game or something about space. We chose making a video game because we both like video games. So, we started working on our project on February 7th during science class. We were looking at what different games we could make. We chose to do a 2D Platformer game. Throughout February we got Unity and we were figuring out how to use it and how to move everything around. We started by using a 3D template space so we could start seeing how Unity works. During March we watched videos that explained how to use Unity and how JavaScript works. It took all of March because it was hard for us to understand. We started to try to make the game during April. Everything was lost when progress was lost because one of our desktops hard drive broke, so it needed to reset completely. We had to start over and we were also figuring out how we could work on the same project together, but we weren’t able to figure that out. We both started thinking of how we could divide the work, so one of us was working on the game and the other was giving ideas of how the game could look. Also, Brayden worked on the journal and Marcos worked on the lab report. We worked during the time that we could, but we could not finish the game. All we could do was the level and how a lot of the game looks, but we could not make the character.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyUmFuZEMlMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZhJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Results and Conclusion
At the beginning of the project we thought that we were going to be able to finish, but we could not finish it.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIySWFuZFIlMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZhJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Insights and Reflections
Insights and Reflections by Brayden: What I learned from this project was that I do not see how people find making video games fun unless they are being paid. This was very stressful and difficult to do, and I would not like doing this again. I would like to say I learned something which I did but it was very little to the time I put into it.
Insights and Reflections by Marcos: The results of this project have made me see how hard it is to make a game and how something will make you have to start over again. I see those moments as something good because it helps me to get back up and try even harder. Even though Brayden and I did not finish this project, I am happy with what we have done, but I would not try to make a game again.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyQmliJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGYSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Bibliography
Teaches us more about making a game. This is good because we have enough information about how to code and how to move things around in the project.
Teaches the basic of a modeling software to create models for the game. We can learn how to make a game in Unity with this video.
This source teaches JavaScript. It is also from a coding academy.
This source also teaches JavaScript. It shows a lot of information on JavaScript
Teaches more about java scripting. This will be good because we will know enough to make the game
