At the start of my project Beckett and I divided up the duties. My job was to take notes and conduct the experiment. Beckett was also to take notes and use them to help write the lab report. It was very intense and very hard and sometimes was a little stressful but you just gotta power through it. My experiment was to determine what soap was best at removing grease and grime. I thought Miss Meyers was going to win. In the end, I was wrong, and Dawn was the winner. After I gathered all the soaps, I put grease on three individual plates. I put a dot of soap on a damp dish towel and gently scrubbed back and forth until the grease was gone. In the end I was very shocked, and I found out that Dawn dish soap worked the best. In life you can’t expect for everything to turn out like you think. For example, I wanted Miss Meyers to win because I liked the smell of that soap best. But in the end, that is not the soap that cleaned the grease the best. I should have remembered that the Dawn commercials show the soap cleaning oil from a duck. Miss Meyers is a good soap it just isn’t as good as good as Dawn when it comes to cleaning grease. What I’m trying to say is you shouldn’t think everything is going to work just because you said it is. I am glad that I conducted this experiment and was able to see that the soap I liked best because of its smell might have been the best in that category but not in the grease cutting category. Object and Inquiry
For this lab report we set out to find which dish soap gets grease and grime off the best. The Object of our study is the efficiency of the dish soaps. The inquiry is which soap gets grease and grime off a dish better.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyVG9ySCUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRmElM0U=[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][vc_column_text]
Logan’s hypothesis Dawn will clean the most efficiently. Becket’s hypothesis Mrs. Meyers will clean most efficiently.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyUldVJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGYSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Research Write Up
Grease comes from many foods. Dish soap is used to get dirty stuff off a dish. A dish is something that is used to eat off of, to serve off of, or to cook off of. A dish could be any shape or size. Dishes include plates, bowls, pots, pans, and serving plates etc. I know several dish soaps: Dawn, Mrs. Mayer’s, Method and Ivory. A scrubby or a sponge is used to clean dishes. Water is used to clean dishes. Grease is something that should not go down the drain for many reasons. Grease can harden and clog drains costing a lot of money to get it removed. When mixing soap with water, the soap becomes bubbly. A sponge is something someone usually uses to clean a dish. Most dishes are plastic, stone or clay.
Grease comes from bacon, fries, pizza, and meat. A dish is a hard, flat, thin round thing that people can eat off of. Bowls were originally clay circles cut in half and hollowed out. People can put soup, pie, ice cream, and pretty much anything. Soap is liquid you put on dish/bowl to get rid of the food. Towel is a piece of cloth that absorbs the water into it so you can clean it off with water. Grease is stuff that people don’t wash down the sink because it will Harden and come from the sink that you drank out of and it might taste like grease. you use the towel to dry the dishes and scrub off the food. Everyone uses a towel every day and if they don’t… start. that’s all I know about soap, dishes/bowl, towel and grease.
Dawn recommends a certain procedure to wash dishes. Scrape big chunks into garbage to not clog it. Dampen sponge with hot water & and put dish soap on it. After, scrub rinse and dry with a rag or let air dry it.1
According to good housekeeping the best dish soap is Dawn Platinum Dishwashing Liquid. They have given other dish soaps different awards. They tested it by smearing stacks of identical dinner plates with their standard “greasy” soil mix made with canned spinach and green beans, mayo, and solid fat.2
Mrs. Meyers website says, “we work hard to ensure our products have a responsible combination of ingredients—combinations that not only work hard on your daily dirt and grime, but that fill your home with garden-inspired scents.” I think this stood out to me because there saying they work hard to make the soap and I have used it and it works great to get off dirt and grime. I think this stood out to me because they use essential oils and other formulated ingredients. they have garden inspired scents, cruelty-free formula, and recyclable packaging.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyVGFuZE0lMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZhJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Tools and Materials
3 dishes, Mrs. Meyers, Dawn, and Ivory dish soap. Hands, hot water, a sink, and a sponge. Scrubby, bacon fat, and a house. The dependent variables are # of scrubs, temperature of water, kind of water, and cleanness of the dishes. The Independent variables are dish soaps. Controlled variables are same number of scrubs, same grease, same dish rag, same heat of water, same amount of soap, and same force to scrub. Our control is pure water. Procedure and Data
We apparently didn’t appreciate the fact that we were supposed to write stuff down every day, but we did get our deliverables done by the requested due dates.
February 3, 2020
We presented the idea that our lab report should be about soaps and Mr. Okimoto approved of our plan.
February 7, 2020
We wrote down our object and inquiry.
March 2, 2020
We wrote our research summary. We cited the source of information on the soaps.
March 4, 2020
We wrote down the list of materials we would need for our experiment.
March 5, 2020
We wrote down our hypothesis.
March 6, 2020
We wrote down our action plan and time frame.
March 13, 2020
We wrote down our planned procedure for the experiment.
April 24, 2020
From home, we finally got to our actual experiment. Logan failed to coax his mother to brave a trip to the grocery store, even with masks and headcover, and instead procured our three soaps from under the kitchen sink. Logan tested the effectiveness of each soap and wrote down the results. We were surprised that Ivory as the most efficient we both underestimated it and thought that Dawn or Mrs. Meyers would beat it but they didn’t.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyUHJvJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGYSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]
- Gather all materials.
- Heat up grease from 3 pieces of bacon then put one tablespoon of grease on a plate.
- Take one drop of Mrs. Meyers dish soap on the sponge.
- Fold dish rag and rub together twice.
- On the plate, scrub with no force left to right until it is clean.
- Keep track of how many scrubs it takes for that strip left to right to be clean.
- Put results on a bar-graph chart.
- Repeat steps 1-7 with the other 2 soaps.

Results and Conclusion
Dawn took 5 swipes ivory took 2 and Mrs. Meyers took 8. Both of our hypothesis was wrong ivory worked the best. Insights and Reflections
I see now that ivory worked better because it had more natural Ingredients than the other two. We should use more natural ingredients because it is better for the environment and it works better than other soaps.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDYSUyMGlkJTNEJTIyQmliJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGYSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”black” el_width=”80″ css_animation=”none”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
